My Big 2021 Intention

I sat down a couple of weeks ago to share my intentions and vision for Rust this year in a blog post, but barely got past the first paragraph.

That seems to be the way a lot of you are feeling too. There was a lot of pressure to start this year with a clean slate and new beginnings, and while some of that energy certainly was in the air, the bulk of it was still very much *pandemic vibes*.

BUT we are persevering, we have taken time to rest and sit with our inner guidance and ask “what do I truly want?” and “how do I want to feel?” and hopefully some magic has come from that.

While I have written a list of intentions (like freeing myself of financial debt, hitting a certain income goal and working on some truly exciting projects) a big, wild, kinda stretchy but also totally possible intention came to me yesterday, and I wanted to share it with you here.

My big intention for 2021 is to coach 100 people.

Considering I officially coached less than 10 in 2020, 100 is a big step up. But an achievable one. I know I can do it. I have the knowledge, the resources, the time and the energy to show up and support 100 humans this calendar year and I am SO excited for it.

Here’s a few ways I will be making this (or something better) happen:

Reverse engineer the intention

Basically, if I want to help and coach 100 people this year, what is my aim for client sessions per month? 8-9, depending on the month. This is also going to change depending on what programs I’m running, what holidays I have scheduled and whether or not my capacity will change based on my energy.

Take January, for example. We’re over halfway through this month and I am working with 5 amazing creatives through our live Build Your Creative Business course. Because of wanting to give my students my all this month, I closed off 1:1 sessions until February, which means I have deliberately capped myself at 5. So fine, and a cracking way to start the year.

I’m also taking 2 weeks holidays in February, but when the available session times fill up I will be easily on track.

Envision it already being done

I am a big fan of intentional manifestation (yes, intentional – we are manifesting all the time, might as well make use of this magical tool!) and spend a few minutes each morning talking about my future desires in past tense on a voice recording.

I do this as part of my Magical Morning Practice (thank you, Gala Darling) and I absolutely love it. It’s so rare that we actually voice our big desires, and talking about them in past tense, and tapping into the feeling of already having done or experienced them, is such a delicious way to start the day.

Another beautiful practice is journaling – you know how much I love my Morning Pages. Sometimes I’ll find myself writing them in past tense and describing the wonderful things I want to feel and do, as if they’ve already happened. Even a statement or mantra as simple as “I am financially free” or “I have a thriving business” when repeated enough – and attached to a FEELING – has the power to rewrite your neural pathways (check out Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself for more of this).

Let go of the outcome

Like every magical thing in life, our intentions will rarely manifest when and how we expect them to. That’s because the Universe often likes to chip in and keep us on our toes. It’s a good thing, although if you have control freak or obsessive planning tendencies than this knowledge will take you a lot longer to accept (that’s okay – you’re on your own path).

So with this intention, I choose to keep it at front and centre of my vision and actively work towards manifesting it, but on the other hand, I am doing so lightly, gently, and willing to surrender at any moment.

It’s a delicate dance that takes practice to be good at – let alone enjoy – and I find with every intention or desire I approach this way, the better I become at surrendering and let the Universe work it’s magic.

So no, this is not your typical goals advice. I don’t work like that, and goals don’t really work for me (not an excuse – just self awareness after many years of failing to conform into the narrow view of “successful” that our current capitalist society has).

I hope this has helped you in some way – or at the very least, encouraged you to dream biggger. I encourage you to find somewhere quiet and safe, perhaps with a warm drink, and ask yourself, “What do I truly desire? If anything was possible, what would I want to do? How would I want to feel?” and see where the answers take you.

Love, Viv
